A thermoelectric generator (TEG) is a solid-state semiconductor device that directly converts heat into electrical energy via the Seebeck effect. A thermoelectric device generates voltage when there is a temperature difference between its sides. Conversely, when a voltage is applied to it, it creates a temperature difference. TEG applications typically fall into two categories:

1.      High-Temperature Gradient Applications: Utilizing artificially created heat sources, such as industrial ovens, open flames or automotive exhaust systems.

2.      Low-Temperature Gradient Applications: Harnessing naturally occurring, subtle temperature differences, such as body heat, diurnal ground-air cycles, or other ambient natural sources.
