TO-39

A miniature header for laser diodes (including VCSEL and DFB lasers), avalanche photodiodes and sensor applications cooling.
About the package

TO-39 headers are typically fabricated with Kovar or CRS bases and pins, coated with a nickel and gold. KIMT offers thermoelectric sub-assemblies on TO-39 headers, providing configurations with either 6 or 8 pins. The 8-pin header is the standard, most frequently requested type. A 6-pin version is available as a more cost-effective solution.

Header pins can be standard cylindrical or have flattened ends for simplified wire bonding. The header’s 3.2×3.2 mm mounting surface is compatible with many single- and multi-stage thermoelectric cooler (TEC) types. KIMT offers various TEC solutions, including single and multi-stage options.

Key features

  • Hermetic Seal: Reliable in harsh environments.
  • Metal Construction (Kovar/CRS): Durable and thermally conductive.
  • Thermal Management: Larger size compared to TO-46 allows for better heat dissipation.
  • Flexible Pinout (3-8 pins): Power, signal, ground and optional TEC.
  • Versatility: Supports various optoelectronic components.

Applications

  • Laser Diodes, used in telecommunications, LiDAR, medical devices and industrial systems.
  • Photodiodes, used in light detection systems, optical sensors and spectroscopy.
  • High-intensity LEDs for illumination, signaling and sensing.
  • Thermoelectric Cooler Integration, used for devices requiring temperature control, such as cooled laser diodes or sensors.
